As part of the 2024 expert collaboration program in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology, on the afternoon of May 28, Binh Dinh Hospital organized a scientific workshop to update medical staff on the topic “Ectopic Pregnancy – Medical and Surgical Treatment.”
The workshop featured presentations by Dr. Le Quang Thanh, Vice President of Vietnam Obstetrics and Gynaecology Association, President of Ho Chi Minh City Maternal and Fetal Medicine Association, and Former Director of Tu Du Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City.
During the workshop, it was noted that ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg implants and grows outside the uterine cavity. This is a common obstetric emergency. Approximately 17 out of every 1,000 pregnancies are ectopic, and this rate is increasing. An ectopic pregnancy can rupture at any time, leading to massive internal bleeding, which can cause haemorrhagic shock and death if not detected and treated promptly.
The workshop provided an opportunity for obstetricians at Binh Dinh Hospital to update their knowledge on advancements in diagnosis and optimal treatment methods with the guidance of experts.
Additionally, at the workshop, Dr. Nguyen Thi Minh Trang, Head of the Obstetrics Department at Binh Dinh Hospital, shared experiences on managing dangerous cases of ectopic pregnancy and the processes of timely diagnosis and treatment that prevent obstetric complications while preserving the fertility of successfully treated patients at the hospital.
As part of the program, on May 29, Dr. Le Quang Thanh personally examined obstetric patients and conducted health consultations for expectant mothers in the Obstetrics Department at Binh Dinh Hospital.
Dr. Ho Viet My, People’s Physician and Deputy Director of Medical Affairs at Binh Dinh Hospital, emphasized that collaboration with leading experts in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology has significantly improved the quality of care at the hospital. The obstetricians are now routinely applying and implementing advanced techniques directly transferred from Dr. Le Quang Thanh, such as labor induction and both medical and surgical treatment of ectopic pregnancies.
