Technology “shakes hands” with medicine: New development trend

Pioneering from the world’s largest corporations

Apple is probably the most mentioned name in the technology field. The iPhone 5 and iPhone 6 fever has made this corporation a familiar name in any country in the world. Recently, Apple has launched the health monitoring service HeathKit, marking its entry into the medical field. This is a type of medical application integrated on iOS8, customers can “turn” the iPhone into a health monitoring device, storing important information and indicators such as blood pressure, blood sugar, etc.

It can be said that HealthKit has helped Apple quickly gain the upper hand in the US medical market. The proof is that 14 out of 23 leading hospitals in the US have negotiated or started piloting the use of the service.

After Apple, the world’s second largest corporation Google has not ignored this fertile land. In addition to the Google Fit medical application that has been operating, Google is planning to develop a new service similar to a Helpouts in healthcare, allowing users to consult doctors when needed. This also means that Google has begun to delve deeper into the healthcare sector, bringing doctors closer to their customers.

In addition to the two “technology powerhouses” above, many large technology corporations in the world have also entered or are preparing to enter this potential market such as Samsung, Microsoft… promising fierce competition in the future.

Initial development in Vietnam

Since 2007, the High-Tech Healthcare Center (FPT Telemedicine) under FPT Corporation has announced the first remote healthcare service using information technology – telecommunications in Vietnam. With just a compact medical device integrated with the ability to transmit data via landline and the internet, users can promptly notify doctors when there are abnormal signs and doctors will conduct consultation and monitoring remotely.

Although limitations in terms of customer access and the ability to grasp users’ needs have prevented this service from going further and lasting long, its appearance has marked the first step in combining technology and healthcare in our country.

Another event that proves that technology and telecommunications corporations in Vietnam are actively investing in the healthcare sector is the comprehensive healthcare cooperation program via phone between Viettel Group and eDoctor. Although it is a new form, this combination has hit the needs of the majority of customers, as a result, hundreds of thousands of people have started to try and appreciate the service. Mr. Dang Xuan Thanh, General Director of eDoctor Joint Stock Company, said that after Viettel, the partners that eDoctor is currently cooperating with are MobiFone, Vietnammobile, etc.

Most recently, the appearance of Samsung Group with a cooperation program for customer health care through the Galaxy App application on wearable devices, once again affirms the trend of combining technology and health care is becoming a new choice for businesses to bring the best care to customers.

This program is a cooperation between Samsung and eDoctor, aiming to help Samsung users have the opportunity to experience the first comprehensive proactive health care service in Vietnam. Accordingly, from February 5 to 13, 2015, 10,000 promotional codes for free health care service trials via 18006115 will be sent to customers in Samsung’s “Galaxy Gift” application. Customers just need to activate the promotional code and call the hotline 18006115 to be connected by eDoctor with medical specialists to answer all health problems.

It is known that Samsung is aiming to achieve 10 trillion won (9.2 billion USD) in profit in the healthcare sector by 2020, so this “giant” is focusing on building an ecosystem to link healthcare with the products and services it is providing. eDoctor is the first partner in Vietnam to cooperate with Samsung to develop remote healthcare services in high-tech devices. In the coming time, eDoctor and Samsung will continue to expand cooperation activities to take care of customers.

It can be said that not only does it bring high profits, the combination of technology and medicine in customer care is also a new weapon to help domestic businesses retain customers. In the near future, this combination will bring amazing results and become an advantage for technology companies.
